License Management improvement ideas
Hey there,
IMO its a bit confusing, that the license file is saved in ~ (home).
Since its not hidden I am always just one keystroke away from deleting it. I want to give you three possibilities / ideas for improvement:

  1. Hide it with a automated ".". Problem with it: just hidden for Linux and OSX. AFAIK Win needs a "_" in front of the filename
  2. Create a separate folder in "home" or "documents" like "Mixbus Licenses" or something. Its way more easy and logically to handle for me as user.
  3. Let the user choose the folder for its own somehwhere on HD

Or is it just me, who wants a clean home folder? Angel

RE: License Management improvement ideas
It does not have to be in $HOME -- that's only the most simple way. A dot-prefix works on Unices

On Windows, Mixbus searches the following locations (first found is used)
  • %localappdata%
  • $HOMEDRIVE$HOMEPATH
  • $USERPROFILE

On OS X:
  • $HOME/Library/Application Support/harrisonconsoles/
  • $HOME/.
  • $HOME/
  • /usr/local/share/ (intended for multi-user institution-wide licenses)

and on GNU/Linux:
  • $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/harrisonconsoles/
  • $HOME/.config/harrisonconsoles/
  • $HOME/.
  • $HOME/
  • /usr/local/share/ (intended for multi-user institution-wide licenses)

RE: License Management improvement ideas
I tried a few month ago (IMO at 3 Release) with a "." and it was not seen by MB.
Perfect (more common) places IMO are:

OSX: Application Support / MB
WIN: %appdata% / MB
Linux: $HOME/.config/harrisonconsoles/ or /opt/MB

But good to know, that there are more places than just the Home-Folders where MB puts them automatically.

RE: License Management improvement ideas
In the early 3.x releases, you couldn't hide the file. But it should be possible now.

The above is for Mixbus 3.4 and later.

appdata and /opt are shared locations and may not or may not be readable/writeable by the current user. Remember: Mixbus licenses are strictly personal (unless you acquire an institutional license).

Two letter acronyms are all taken since the 80s, besides plugin licenses are not Mixbus specific, hence "harrisonconsoles" not "MB".

Anyway, if you want some shortcut you can symlink the dir or license files.
